Back Up Car Proves Worthy of Top Ten Finish at Concord Motorsport Park

July 14, 2008 - After posting lap times in the Top 5 during Friday practice, Justin Larson was forced to bring out the back up car for the remainder of the event in Concord, NC. The Skinner Nurseries / DiscoverTec ASA Late Model blew blew a motor with twenty minutes left of practice. The Justin Larson Racing, Inc. team was forced to use a car Larson had only previously raced once before, which resulted in his first win of the season at Desoto Speedway.

Struggling a bit throughout the day, Justin managed to qualify 12th out of 26 cars with a 16.281 lap time at a speed of 110.558 MPH. Approaching half way of the 100 lap event, the Skinner Nurseries Ford was forced to pit under caution while running in the 6th position to change a right front flat tire. After going to the tail end of the field, Justin worked his way back up towards the front. On lap 83, he spun coming out of turn 4 while trying to pass a lapped car. With 17 laps remaining, Larson had to come from the rear of the field and managed to bring home a top ten finish.

Justin finished 9th for the night behind veteran driver Butch Miller. He gained two spots in points in the 4th position and is 2nd in the Rookie of the Year standings. The Skinner Nurseries team will have three weeks to prepare both cars for the next ASA South event at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina. The following week, the team heads to the famous Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee for Larson’s first ASA Challenge event of the year.
