OVERHEATING ISSUES DAMPEN LARSON'S SPEEDWEEKS

Justin Larson entered the back end of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) with his #88 Skinner Nurseries team looking for a little luck and a lot of success. Unfortunately the two races he ran didn’t quite have the results he was looking for.

Starting 11th in the first of his two Super Late Model races, Larson ended up with a 24th-place finish. In the second event, Larson clocked in 14th fastest and looked towards a strong run, but motor issues forced him behind the wall before the end of the race.

“I did come here with high hopes,” said Larson. “A top five would have been nice. We had a problem, the motor started over heating. We had a problem all week where it was running hotter than normal so we put a regular fan on it instead of an electric fan we thought we cured it all day in practice and went out there and ran about 20 laps and just started running about 250 degrees and just had to pull out. I was done.”

Larson realized the team was behind the eight ball all weekend due to arriving late at Speedweeks.

“It’s tough to come here at the end of the week when all of these guys have been here for so long practicing everyday and racing,” explained Larson. “They’re kind of in the rhythm and everything. It’s hard to come in here and be fast, you only get a couple runs at practice, so I do think if we come back next year we’ll come for the whole week. If we don’t then I guess we won’t come at all. If you come and run great you’re a hero and if you don’t you kind of look bad, so we have to figure out what we’re going to do.”
